Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira started its functioning as a Polytechnic from 1954 in the faculty of Licentiate in Engineering (3 years Diploma) and Junior Technical Education in the year 1963 in the vision of Swamiji’s man-making, character-building ‘Real Education’ which enable one to stand on one’s legs.
In 1959 alumnus of Shilpamandira started Re-Union the banner of Praktan Chhatra Parishad. During the year 1966 Praktan Chhatra Parishad converted to Chhatra Punarmilan Parishad to associate with the present students to manifest their creative talent in the essence of competence.
We are proud to say from the year 1987 present Principal, Swami Tattwajnananandaji Maharaj (formerly attached with Chicago Ramakrishna Mission, USA) took over the entire charge of Shilpamandira and since then our Polytechnic continued vibrant and added a new dimension in the academic excellence in and around the Diploma Engineering levels throughout the West Bengal.
Subsequently, in order to regular introspecting with the thoughts of Swamiji’s vision Chhatra Punarmilan Parishad merged with Alumni association which came in its appearance on the memorable day 15 th. August, 1995 with the blessing and stimulating influence by the Principal, Swami Tattwajnananandaji Maharaj Prof. Amiya Kumar Dhara (Retd.) and Late Prof. Sourendra Nath Bose.
Accordingly, Alumni Association was formed with constitutional principles mainly girded for setting up the policies and programs for the betterment of studies of the present students in a befitting way. Alumni Association owned regd. office at “ Sakuntala Kunja” 16, Panchanantala Road, Howrah-711 101 and obtained Govt. Registration from the competent authority. The regular office work is being maintained by the members and facilitated with internet & telephone connection to ensure the connectivity at all corners. We have 1000 members strong Alumni Association and engaged in their profession India & abroad and in all we are proud to be a Shilpamandirian.
Considering the traditional unique academic excellence of Shilpamandira students Alumni Association offers 11 (Eleven) Scholarship and prizes to the toppers of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics & Telecomunication Engineering students in every year for their surpassing merit and also arranged a “Book Bank” by the Alumni Association to the library of Shilpamandira worth of Rs. 60,000.00 for improvement of studies and to achieve many other Engineering aspects to foster with the science of industrial arts.
In addition to this program Alumni Association organized Seminar, Workshop, Study Tour, TSS & GPS (Survey Engineering) with field exposures, Technical Exhibition, Blood Donation Camp, Plantation program, Annual General Meeting, Sports & culture activities with members and their families in every year. On January 30, 2011 Alumni Association paid tribute by arranging memorable program in observance of 175 Birth Anniversary (2011-2012) of “Thakur Sri Ramakrishna” by staging Bengali Drama ‘TRINETRA’ the holy Trinity of Thakur Ramakrishna, Maa Sarada & Swami Vivekananda at Sarat Sadan, Howrah by Srijanee Natya Gosthi, Noida, Delhi.
It is our pleasure by organizing memorial lecture ‘Swamiji & Youth’ on 7 September, 2011 at Golden Jubilee Hall, RKMS, Belurmath prior to observance 150 Birth Anniversary Celebration of Swami Vivekananda which will inspire to all especially the youth of the society.
